They can at least often recommend a handyman. It is probably too small a job for a general contractor but it doesn't hurt to call and ask. If this is all a bit much to try to do yourself, ask around for a reference to a good "handyman" - someone with the right skills to assess your situation and help you fix it. You can also do as Beverly suggested and have a proper recirculating microwave installed - again, you may need a small cabinet above. Your local Habitat for Humanity store may have a gently used cabinet that could be painted for a low price. (Examples: 688-K, 41000-L, 679FL-C.) If your model includes an alpha suffix, it is important to select the parts related to the complete model number - including the alpha suffix. If you bring a door to the home center store, you might even be able to fine a finished cabinet that matches your finish. Also, some carry unfinished stock kitchen cabinets and you may find a match there. Many of the kitchen cabinets sold through the home center stores can be purchased unfinished, so look for a door style close to the one you have. You can order a short unfinished cabinet to go above the vent and have it stained to match - or if you wish to paint the cabinets, paint it to match. The price of some of these vents is very reasonable. Do a google search of "recirculating vent hood" and several will come up. There are also recirculating hoods for kitchens without vents. It is possible that there is a vent in the soffit - possibly what the black upper part of the cabinet is part of.
